Tim and Eric Reveal New Project: The Blues Brothers 2012
My only connection to the Blues Brothers is David Cross' piece about how Jim Belushi is a douchebag. However, I feel like Tim and Eric were born in my wolfpack. We are close, and I support their work. Below is their official announcement.
See This Now: Inception
If it seems like I've been gone for a few days, it's not because I've been a lazy fuck, but because I've been camping out for the premiere of this movie. That is a lie. However, I have been waiting for it intensely since I saw the teaser trailer last summer.
As what typically happens, oohs and aahs and "I'm gonna go see that" could be heard throughout the audience. I, on the other hand, forgot entirely about what movie I was seeing and started focusing on the imagery from that teaser. The top. The clock. The flying men in the hallway. Your mind as the scene of a crime. I've always had a thing for these mysterious teaser trailers and this one made me pee a little bit.
Fast forward to earlier this year, more and more information started coming out about the movie. It was vaguely explained as Leonard DiCaprio's character being a type of "thought thief", which he does so through entering dreams. Only after seeing the movie do you realize that you won't fully understand it until about halfway through, and then it just starts getting weirder.
I saw Inception yesterday and upon leaving I realized nothing would ever be as exciting as the film I had just experienced. Everything about the story worked - not only is it the most original blockbuster in years, but everything from the action scenes to the love stories are engaging, even as they transcend multiple dream levels. At it's core it's not a heist movie, and their main "job" is only the back story to DiCaprio's twisted relationship with his lost wife, played by Marion Cotillard. It becomes an exploration of broken and lost relationships through idealized memories came alive in dreams.
That's not to say it's not worth seeing for the action alone. While it's a pretty classic heist setup, the number of twists the dream worlds allow for create an entirely new experience. Yet there's enough character development, and stellar performances from both DiCaprio and Cotillard that you're engaged in the action beyond the visuals.
I have not seen as many movies as you probably have. But I found Inception to be as perfect as any of my favorite films. It makes Pulp Fiction seem as if it was written by a middle school student, and leaves you simultaneously appreciating the real world you live in, and begging to re-enter the worlds you just experienced. See this movie in IMAX as soon as you can. Four stars two thumbs up and a fucking pony for this movie.
The Only Irish Martial Arts Film – It Sounds Bad Already
The trailer for Fatal Deviation, the only martial arts film to come out of Ireland. You might think that by default it's the best, but no. This movie can only be the worst. The acting, scripting and filming is so horrid that you almost stop noticing their scarring Irish dialects throughout the entire film. Fortunately, this landmark in movie history has been made available on Youtube, split up into eight parts. I suppose you could enjoy it if you were high out of your mind and had already seen every Cheech and Chong four times through. Happy Saturday.

Recommended Movie: Waking Life
Animation/Drama/Fantasy/Mystery. A man stuck in a lucid dream goes has a series of adventures and discussions in his dream world. Absolutely gives you an entirely new take on what you do for 1/3rd of your life. This film will make you want to go to bed. In a good way.
From IMDB: Dreams. What are they? An escape from reality or reality itself? Waking Life follows the dream(s) of one man and his attempt to find and discern the absolute difference between waking life and the dreamworld. While trying to figure out a way to wake up, he runs into many people on his way; some of which offer one sentence asides on life, others delving deeply into existential questions and life's mysteries. We become the main character. It becomes our dream and our questions being asked and answered. Can we control our dreams? What are they telling us about life? About death? About ourselves and where we come from and where we are going? The film does not answer all these for us. Instead, it inspires us to ask the questions and find the answers ourselves.

Recommended Movie: The Prestige
Mystery/Suspense/Thriller. The perfection of a perfect trick leads to a rivalry between two fellow magicians. Excellent story, and David Bowie plays Nikola Tesla, so you can't complain.
Recommended Movie: Fargo
Thriller/Drama/Dark Comedy. Well this is a classic, but it's often overshadowed by the other work of the Cohen Brothers or even Quentin Tarantino's work. Man arranges the kidnapping of his wife to collect the ransom from her rich father. It predictably goes to shit, made all the funnier by Steve Buscemi, wood chippers, and Midwestern accents.
